Research Areas: The major focus of Dr. Yam’s research is on the molecular design and synthesis of novel inorganic/organometallic metal complexes that may find potential applications as functional metal-based molecular materials. Of particular interest are luminescent polynuclear metal complexes that show weak metal-metal interactions and luminescent metal complex and supramolecular systems of charge-transfer excited states, with d6, d8 or d10 metal centres, in particular those containing alkynyl, chalcogenido, chalcogenolato, pnictogenido and polypyridyl ligands. Through the systematic study of the electronic spectroscopy of the newly synthesized metal complex systems, a fundamental understanding of the spectroscopic and luminescence origin as well as the structure-property relationship of these complexes could be established. | |||

Jin ZhangProfessor, Pharmacology, UC San Diego Dr. Jin Zhang’s has engaged in investigatingthe molecular mechanisms and functional roles of such spatiotemporal regulationby taking a “native biochemistry” approach. This allows us to unravel thechemical mechanisms of life processes in the framework of cellular time andspace, where molecular changes can be directly linked to functional effects.Work in the Zhang laboratory combines genetically encoded fluorescentbiosensors, superresolution imaging, targeted biochemical perturbations andmathematic modeling to investigate the spatiotemporal regulation of thecAMP/PKA, Ca2+/calcineurin, PI3K/Akt/mTOR, MAPK and AMPK pathways in thecontext of energy metabolism, axon polarization and genesis, insulin secretionby β cells, as well as tumorigenesis. Dr. Peng ZouCollegeof Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, Peking University Research Areas: Dr. PengZou’sresearch focuses on inventing chemistry-enabled tools to study cellularstructures, functions and signaling pathways, with a particular focus onneuroscience. He strives to understand how neuronal activities arise throughthe complex interplay between physical forces, chemical signals, and biologicalmacromolecules. This mainly follows two lines of efforts: enzyme-based probesfor profiling biomolecules in neurons, and optical reporters for neuralactivities. The methods are drawing from a wide range of techniques, includingprotein engineering, molecular biology, chemical synthesis, fluorescencemicroscopy, computer programming and quantitative modeling. Dr. Yu YeCenterfor Nanoscience and Technology, Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies,Peking University Research Areas: The research interests ofDr. Yu Ye are in two-dimensional materials, and related electronic, photonicand optoelectronic devices. For example, the single atomic crystal layer oftransition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), with numerous exotic physicalproperties, has become a worthy successor to graphene. The two-dimensionalinsulator, semicondutor, semi-metal, superconduction, charge-density-wave andferromagnetism materials have been discovered. The van der Waalsheterosturctures with different two-dimensional matials will create exoticphysical properties, not exsiting in single two-dimensional materials. Hestudying on novel physical phenomena emerging in atomically-thin materials, vander Waals heterostructures and surface/interfaces by nanoscale device designs,optical spectroscopy, electrical transport, and scanning photocurrentmeasurements. | |||
